Por lo que he conversado con los integrantes de los Dibujantes Urbanos Caracas, casi ninguno sabía lo que era un Dibujo Urbano la primera vez que asistió a una jornada, incluyéndome.Pensé que íbamos a la calle a dibujar lo que me gustara, pero no la totalidad de lo que observábamos, pues la cosa no iba por ahí. La verdad es que el manifiesto de los Urban Sketchers está clarísimo, si nos guiamos por ahí no habrá mayor inconveniente para que nuestros dibujos cumplan con las características de un dibujo urbano. (Aunque debo reconocer que he visto sketches (bocetos) de personas u objetos solamente publicados como dibujo urbano, pocos pero supongo que son de sketchers tan buenos que seria una pena no verlos). Una vez hecho este aparte, voy a seguir con el tema pero respetando el manifiesto .

Los 4 primeros puntos del manifiesto de la organización internacional Urban Sketchers lo dice todo, tomando de su página web literalmente en español estas reglas, establecen lo siguiente:  

# 1. "Dibujamos “in situ”, a cubierto o al aire libre, capturando directamente lo que observamos?"   

Está claro. Puede ser un dibujo –sketch - en la calle, en una cafetería, en su casa, en un parque, etc.

# 2. "Nuestros dibujos cuentan la historia de nuestro entorno, de los lugares donde vivimos y donde viajamos" . También está clarísimo.

Punto nro 3 : “Al dibujar documentamos un lugar y un momento determinado”. Tampoco necesita mayor explicación.

# 4: “Somos fieles a las escenas que presenciamos”.  

Aja! este punto es lapidario. Dice claramente que no cambiamos nada, dibujamos lo que vemos, podemos omitir cosas, claro que sí, que sé yo, un cable de electricidad colgando que se atraviesa frente al edificio maravilloso que estamos dibujando; un carro frente a un monumento histórico que interrumpe la vista, etc., eso lo podemos hacer pero, en nuestros dibujos jamás inventamos nada. Tampoco dibujamos de memoria, ni de fotografías, “in situ” lo dice todo.

Entonces cómo podríamos definir un Dibujo Urbano? Puedo ponerme a definirlo con palabras diferentes y siempre tendrá el mismo significado. Es un dibujo fiel de lo que observamos? Es un dibujo rápido sobre una escena que estamos observando? Es un dibujo in situ que nos cuenta una historia? Yo diría todas las anteriores, palabras más o con palabras menos. Los lineamientos están claros pienso yo, no hay que complicarse buscándole las 4 patas al gato.

 Ahora si, el árbol está al lado de un kiosko y hay dos personas hablando, esta es una escena dibujada, es decir, un dibujo urbano!

Dibujar en grupo implica muchas cosas, sobre todo relaciones humanas, ese es un tema que me gustaría desarrollar en otra entrada. Pidiendo a mi grupo que me cuente cómo llegaron a USKCCS, me han escrito cosas interesantes, siempre las actividades entre personas aporta algo enriquecedor a nuestras vidas, lo compartiré aquí, en próximas entradas.

From what I have talked to the members of the Caracas Urban Cartoonists, almost none of them knew what an Urban Sketch was the first time they attended a meeting, including myself. I thought we would go to the street to draw what we liked, but not the totality of what we observed, because the thing was not going that way. The truth is that the manifesto of the Urban Sketchers is very clear, if we guide ourselves with it, there will be no major inconvenience for our drawings to comply with the characteristics of an urban sketching. (Although I must admit that I have seen sketches of people or objects only published as urban drawing, few of them but I suppose they are from sketchers so good that it would be a shame not to see them). Once this part is done, I will continue with the subject but respecting the manifesto.

The first 4 points of the manifesto of the international organization Urban Sketchers say it all, taking these rules literally in English from their website, they establish the following:

# 1. "We draw on location, indoors or out, capturing what we see from direct observation".

It is clear. It can be a sketch  on the street, in a cafeteria, at home, in a park, etc.

# 2: "Our drawings tell the story of our surroundings of the places we live and where we travel." 

It is also very clear.

# 3. Our drawings are a record of time and place. It does not need further explanation.

# 4: "We are truthful to the scenes we witness."

AHA! this point is lapidary. It clearly says that we do not change anything, we draw what we see, we can omit things, of course we do, I know, a hanging electricity cable that is crossed in front of the wonderful building that we are drawing; a car in front of a historical monument that interrupts the view, etc., we can do that but, in our sketches we never invent anything. Nor do we draw from memory, or from photographs, "in situ" says it all.

So how could we define an Urban Sketching? I can define it in different words and it will always have the same meaning. Is it a truthfull drawing of what we observe? Is it a quick sketching of a scene that we are observing? Is it an in situ drawing that tells us a story? I would say all of the above, words more or with words less. The guidelines are clear I think, you do not have to complicate looking for the 4 legs of the cat.

Drawing in a group involves many things, especially human relationships, that is a topic that I would like to develop in another post. Asking my group to tell me how they came to USKCCS, they have written me interesting things, the activities between people always bring something enriching to our lives, I will share it here, in future posts.
