This is how the Urban Sketchers Caracas are defined  

"Somos un colectivo de dibujantes que registra lo que ocurre en nuestra ciudad - Caracas y sus alrededores - a través del dibujo. Estos registros abren una opción para que otras personas, en otros espacios comprendan lo que percibimos desde nuestra visión fragmentada de la ciudad y completar el rompecabezas con puntos de vista diversos de un mismo tema"

Diciembre 2011 Primer encuentro: el comienzo  

El evento se llamó 1er. encuentro de dibujantes urbanos “Trazos, Dibujos y Pinceladas de Caracas” y contó  con la presencia del fundador del movimiento a nivel mundial Urban Sketchers (Dibujantes Urbanos), Gabriel Campanario. El evento fue patrocinado por Faber-Castell como parte de su programa social y por el 250 aniversario del conocido fabricante. Por Venezuela participaron destacados artistas como  Rayma Suprani, Eduardo Sanabria (EDO), Rosana Faria, Santiago Pol y Ricardo Benaim. Rueda de prensa incluida, entrevista en radio, periódicos y periodistas contribuyeron a la difusión del evento. Periodistas como José  "Cheo" Carvajal, también participó como guía de Campanario por los barrios de nuestra ciudad. Guía de lujo por cierto, y aquí hago este aparte porque creo que la labor de Cheo Carvajal es muy importante para la ciudad. Se destaca por su defensa al peatón, miembro de la ONG Ciudad Laboratorio, y el que tuvo la maravillosa idea del evento que se hace todos los años "El Calvario Puertas Abiertas", en el Municipio El Hatillo, al que acudimos anualmente. Gracias a todas estas personas, mas de 100 entusiastas habitantes de Caracas, acudieron al llamado Dibujar Caracas.

Pero una de las curiosidades que descubrí leyendo un articulo sobre ese evento fue que :

"La organizadora principal del evento, Carmen Yolanda Moreno de Sinergia, se encontró con Urban Sketchers en Facebook a través de su cuñado, un dibujante urbano de Italia llamado Marco Pallini, cuando trabajaba en propuestas para Faber-Castell. Asi es como surgio la idea de un evento de dibujo urbano en Caracas". describe Gabriel Campanario.

En este primer encuentro se encontraría el que es hoy el director o el líder de los Dibujantes Urbanos Caracas , Maximiliano (Max) Gonzalez Citterio.

Lo que pasó  después de ese primer encuentro 

Esta historia me la contó Max y en una jornada que dibujábamos y chequeada en una larga conversación telefónica. Y también referencias de Raimundo Márques, también miembro de Uskccs. Para hacerles el cuento corto, esto fue lo que me dijo: 

Max participó en "Trazos, Dibujos y Pinceladas" por casualidad, apenas se enteró 2 semanas antes de comenzar. Fue a través de amigos, y de blogueros que tuvo conocimiento de lo que iba a acontecer en la ciudad. Allí obviamente comenzaron los contactos con los participantes, intercambiaron teléfonos, e informalmente y de manera espontánea surgió una primera reunión, gracias a llamadas telefónicas que recibió de esos contactos que hizo. Esa reunión tuvo lugar en áreas del casco histórico de Caracas.

Como el primer evento formal, se organizaría con el mismo patrocinante, Faber Castell, un segundo evento, se llamó “Caracas en 12 puntos” en junio del 2012. En estructura similar al evento anterior. En seis meses, se dibujó a Caracas en doce lugares distintos, cada 15 días había jornadas en un lugar de nuestra ciudad, en donde, antes de comenzar a dibujar, se realizaba una reseña histórica del sitio, destacando su arquitectura y las anécdotas que involucraban directamente al habitante de la ciudad. Una vez concluida esta reseña se pasaba a dibujar, siguiendo unas pautas de tiempo que se asignaban y, que se debían respetar. Ademas de la supervisión de la sesión de dibujo, se realizaban tomas fotográficas a cargo del profesional Oscar Lucien. Al finalizar el evento, seis meses después, se escogería un dibujante que iría al 3er. Simposio Internacional Urban Sketching, en representación de los Dibujantes Urbanos en Venezuela. Ese dibujante fue Raimundo Márques, mas adelante escribiré sobre Raimundo.

Después de los eventos descritos anteriormente, Max siguió reuniéndose hasta agosto 2012 mas o menos, sin presupuesto; sin patrocinantes; sin prensa, solo el ánimo de un grupo que decidió continuar la práctica. Fue entonces cuando comenzó reuniones formales en Septiembre 2012, ya casi un año desde el primer encuentro, así es como se llega a celebrar el primer aniversario un 6 de Diciembre 2012, el cual se celebra hasta el día de hoy. Acostumbramos a reunirnos ese día, unos dibujan otros no, pero en realidad es un día de reencuentros, compartir algún refrigerio, conversar, pasar un rato. Esta es una costumbre que se ha mermado mucho por la situación país, esos momentos del compartir después de una jornada, ya no se dan. Eso ha cambiado mucho, pero lo dejaré para reflexionarlo en otra entrada, cómo nos ha afectado la situación país como grupo.

This is how the Urban Sketchers Caracas are defined

December 2011 First meeting: the beginning

The event was called 1st. meeting of urban sketchers "Strokes, Drawings and Brushstrokes of Caracas" and was attended by the founder of the worldwide movement Urban Sketchers , Gabriel Campanario. The event was sponsored by Faber-Castell as part of its social program and for the 250th anniversary of the well-known manufacturer. From Venezuela, prominent artists such as Rayma Suprani, Eduardo Sanabria (EDO), Rosana Faria, Santiago Pol and Ricardo Benaim participated. Including press conference, radio interview, newspapers and journalists contributed to the promotion of the event. Journalists like José "Cheo" Carvajal also participated as Campanario's guide through the neighborhoods of our city. But one of the curiosities that I discovered reading an article about that event was that:

In this first meeting would be the one who is today the director or leader of the Caracas Urban Sketchers, Maximiliano (Max) Gonzalez Citterio.

What happened after that first meeting

This story was told to me by Max and in a day that we were drawing and checked in a long telephone conversation. And also references from Raimundo Márques, also a member of Uskccs. To make a short story , this is what he told me:

Max participated in "Strokes, Drawings and Brushstrokes" by chance, he barely found out 2 weeks before starting. It was through friends and bloggers that he learned of what was going to happen in the city. There, obviously, the contacts with the participants began, they exchanged telephones, and informally and spontaneously a first meeting arose, thanks to telephone calls that he received from those contacts that he made. That meeting took place in areas of the historic center of Caracas.

As the first formal event, a second event would be organized with the same sponsor, Faber Castell, called "Caracas at 12 points" in June 2012. In a similar structure to the previous event. In six months, Caracas was drawn in twelve different places, every 15 days there were workshops in a place in our city, where, before starting to draw, a historical review of the site was made, highlighting its architecture and the anecdotes that involved directly to the city dweller. Once this review was finished, they began to draw, following some time guidelines that were assigned and that had to be respected. In addition to supervising the drawing session, photographic shots were taken by the professional Oscar Lucien. At the end of the event, six months later, one sketcher would be chosen to go to the 3rd. International Urban Sketching Symposium, representing Urban Sketchers in Venezuela. That sketcher was Raimundo Márques, later I will write about Raimundo.

After the events described above, Max kept meeting until August 2012 or so, with no budget; no sponsors; no press, just the encouragement of a group that decided to continue the practice. It was then that formal meetings began in September 2012, almost a year since the first meeting, this is how the first anniversary is celebrated on December 6, 2012, which is celebrated to this day. We used to meet that day, some draw others not, but in reality it is a day of reunions, share a snack, talk, hang out. This is a custom that has been greatly diminished by the country's situation, those moments of sharing after a day, no longer occur. That has changed a lot, but I will leave it to reflect on it in another post, how the country situation has affected us as a group.

And who are they ?, I will show them in "Meeting an Urban Sketcher".
