Conociendo a los Dibujantes Urbanos Caracas: La Diáspora : Doris Raecke - Meet The Sketchers.

Doris Raecke

Doris es otro miembro de Uskccs que le ha tocado emigrar después de toda una vida viviendo en Venezuela. Alemana de nacimiento, le ha tocado vivir esta parte de nuestra historia y tomar la decisión de regresar a su país de origen. Así lo redacta en su blog, que me parece describe esa capacidad que tenemos los seres humanos para adaptarnos a cambios inesperados en nuestra vida y hacer con ello algo positivo:  

"No es fácil comenzar de nuevo en el extranjero, ¡pero ofrece maravillosas oportunidades! Lo que es la monotonía cotidiana para la mayoría, es interesante para mí. Dibujo en todas partes, a menudo en trenes. Hay tantas cosas nuevas para registrar en mis cuadernos de bocetos. Tengo tantas ideas, me temo que el tiempo no es suficiente para materializarlas todas. Quiero representar la enorme diversidad de personas que me rodean en Europa"

Doris me escribe que no recuerda cómo llegó al grupo Uskccs, probablemente gracias a algún compañero del Circulo de Dibujo de Caracas, grupo al que también pertenecía, o a algún miembro de los talleres que ella misma dictaba. Doris es acuarelista, miembro de la Asociación Venezolana de Acuarelistas, impartió talleres sobre acuarela y dibujo en diferentes sitios de la ciudad.  El trabajo artístico como acuarelista de Doris ha sido presentado en Bienales como la de México, Brasil o España así como, exposiciones en Ecuador, Rusia, Italia, Chile, Guatemala y Panamá.

En ese email que me envió Doris dice muchas cosas que me gustaría compartir con todos, así que reproduzco lo que me escribió porque creo que no tiene desperdicio: 

"Recuerdo que Max fue uno de los primeros a quienes conocí, a quien aprecio muchísimo y aplaudo el esfuerzo que ha hecho todos estos años...La realidad es que el grupo de los Dibujantes Urbanos me daba mas nota"

"...el dibujo urbano es una nota, no solo por la diversidad de lugares y participantes, sino por lo abierto del grupo. Todos son bienvenidos, no hay criticas, pero si mucha motivación, compañerismo, alegría y entusiasmo" 

"Desde que estoy en Alemania, me he dado cuenta que no solo pertenezco a USKCCS, sino a USK no importa donde esté. Participo con el grupo europeo de habla alemana, con el de Dusseldorf-Colonia y el de Dortmund"

En Febrero de este año Doris crea USK Essen, donde reside:

"Encontré un aliado, con quien comparto el trabajo del grupo de Essen, tanto en dirección y convocatoria, como de actualización de la página de Facebook. Hacemos mucho énfasis en interactuar con los otros grupos de ciudades vecinas y eso es fantástico porque aumenta la oferta para los participantes, tanto en diversidad de lugares, como de días y horas de las actividades.

Es bueno que todos los integrantes en Caracas se den cuenta que esta actividad les pone en contacto con "semejantes" en cualquier parte del mundo. Con la crisis venezolana, uno nunca sabe hacia dónde lo llevarán los caminos de la vida. En todo caso, estos grupos son divinos, te hacen sentir parte de algo que aprecias."

"Siempre tengo que reírme cuando me dicen "pero tu naciste con talento". Yo respondo, no es el talento, es el amor por el dibujo que me motiva a trabajar. Uno no dibuja bien porque nació con talento, sino porque se fajó. Los Urban Sketchers en todas partes del mundo te brindan la oportunidad y motivación para dibujar... La frecuencia y continuidad es la clave del éxito. La otra cosa curiosa es que los dibujos mas retorcidos, suelen ser los mas interesantes y artísticos. Para perfectas lineas rectas están las computadoras y para perfectos retratos está  la fotografía."

"Participar en las actividades de la comunidad USK también te provee la oportunidad de conocer a personas a quienes les gusta hacer lo mismo que a ti. Te obliga a moverte y a salir de cualquier hoyo psicológico en el que nos encontremos, y creo que el proceso es altamente terapéutico. Excelente forma de superar el estrés que causa la inseguridad y la crisis venezolana."

Hablar con Doris es siempre satisfactorio, nos llamamos con cierta frecuencia para saber de nuestras andanzas. Fue ella quien me recomendó unirme a los Uskccs, la conocí en un taller que Helen Mortlock y ella impartían sobre Sketchbook y me gustó tanto que volví a tomar el taller un mes después. Allí comenzó nuestra amistad que perdura hasta el sol de hoy. Me invitó a compartir su estudio, y participé como apoyo en sus talleres de dibujo urbano y técnicas de acuarela, ese tiempo me permitió conocerla mejor. Una experiencia fascinante.

Le había pedido algunos dibujos y con su acostumbrada forma directa de hablar termina su email con esto , que me causó mucha gracia :

"... Revisar los viejos cuadernos, es un inmediato viaje al pasado. Es decir, la actividad además  provee una magnifica forma para prevenir la demencia senil "

Doris is another member of Uskccs who has had to emigrate after living in Venezuela for a lifetime. She is German by birth, she has had to live this part of our history and make the decision to return to her country of origin. She writes it like this on her blog, which seems to me to describe the capacity that human beings have to adapt to unexpected changes in our lives and do something positive with it:

"It is not easy to start over abroad, but it offers wonderful opportunities! What is everyday monotony for most, is interesting to me. I draw everywhere, often on trains. There are so many new things to record on my sketchbooks. I have so many ideas, I'm afraid time is not enough to bring them all to to materialize them . I want to represent the enormous diversity of people around me in Europe. "

Doris writes to me that she does not remember how she came to the Uskccs group, probably thanks to a colleague from the Circulo de Dibujo de Caracas (Caracas Drawing Circle), a group to which she also belonged, or to a member of the workshops that she herself dictated. Doris is a watercolorist, member of the Venezuelan Association of Watercolorists, she gave workshops on watercolor and drawing in different parts of the city. Her artistic work as Doris's watercolorist has been featured in Biennials such as Mexico, Brazil and Spain, as well as exhibitions in Ecuador, Russia, Italy, Chile, Guatemala and Panama.

In that email that she sent me, Doris says many things that I would like to share with everyone, so I reproduce what she wrote to me because I think she has no waste:

"I remember that Max was one of the first I met, whom I appreciate very much and applaud the effort he has made all these years ... The reality is that the group of Urban Sketchers gave me more notice"

"... urban drawing is fantastic, not only because of the diversity of places and participants, but also because of the openness of the group. Everyone is welcome, there are no criticisms, but a lot of motivation, camaraderie, joy and enthusiasm"

"Since I have been in Germany, I have realized that not only I belong to USKCCS, but to USK no matter where I am. I participate with the German-speaking European group, with the Dusseldorf-Cologne and the Dortmund group."

In February of this year Doris created USK Essen, where she resides:

"I found an ally, with whom I share the work of the Essen group, both in management and convocation, as well as in updating the Facebook page. We place a lot of emphasis on interacting with other groups from neighboring cities and that is fantastic because it increases the offer for the participants, both in a variety of places, as well as the days and hours of the activities.

It is good that all the members in Caracas realize that this activity puts them in contact with "similar" in any part of the world. With the Venezuelan crisis, you never know where the roads of life will take you. In any case, these groups are divine, they make you feel part of something you appreciate. "

"I always have to laugh when they tell me" but you were born with talent. "I answer, it is not the talent, it is the love for drawing that motivates me to work. One does not draw well because he was born with talent, but because he work a lot. Urban Sketchers all over the world give you the opportunity and motivation to draw ... Frequency and continuity is the key to success. The other curious thing is that the most twisted drawings are usually the most interesting and artistic. straight lines are computers and for perfect portraits there is photography. "

"Participating in the activities of the USK community also provides you the opportunity to meet people who like to do the same as you. It forces you to move and get out of whatever psychological hole we find ourselves in, and I think the process it is highly therapeutic. An excellent way to overcome the stress caused by insecurity and the Venezuelan crisis. "

Talking with Doris is always satisfactory, we call each other with certain frequency to find out about our adventures. She was the one who recommended me to join the Uskccs, I met her at a workshop she and Helen Mortlock taught on Sketchbook and I liked it so much that I took the workshop again a month later. There began our friendship that lasts until the today. She invited me to share her studio, and I participated as her support in her urban drawing workshops and watercolor techniques, that time allowed me to get to know her better. A fascinating experience.

I had asked her for some drawings and with the usual direct way of talking, she ended her email with this that I think it was very fun:

"... Reviewing old notebooks is an immediate trip to the past. That is, the activity also provides a great way to prevent senile dementia"
